Employee Council

Company Founder John H. McConnell noticed the organization was growing too large for him to maintain personal contact with front-line workers and listen to their opinions. He formed the first Employee Council in 1961, with members chosen by management. Worthington Enterprises carries on this tradition today with 10 Employee Councils throughout its global locations. Councils meet monthly with site and Company leaders and publish notes for all employees.
EMPLOYEE COUNCIL

Local Leaders

Serving on Employee Council is considered a notable form of recognition, as members represent as local leaders, meeting to address concerns, assign actions and carry out plans. Annually, representatives from each Employee Council convene for a Joint Employee Council summit for best practice sharing and engaging with Company executives.

These efforts, locally and holistically, ensure open, two-way communication between employees and leadership in a comfortable environment.

From ideas for working better, to recognition and benefits, no issue is too large or small for Employee Council to tackle as stewards of the employee experience. For example, employees recently voiced a desire for a new benefit related to owning a pet. As a result, discounted pet insurance was added to the Company benefits package for 2025.

The Golden Rule, p. 95, John H. McConnell

Respect for your people is something you feel deeply, and respect never can be proven by words alone. Action must accompany it.
