IMPACT IN ACTION

Diverting Waste
OUR IMPACT | PROCESS AND PLANET

We believe every action matters when it comes to the environment. Diverting waste from landfills can be a simple action to take if you know the right way to do so and have easy access to diversion channels. Worthington Enterprises gained both through its participation in the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio’s (SWACO) Business Recycling Champion program.

As a Recycling Champion, Worthington Enterprises implemented more robust efforts to recycle at its corporate locations by providing recycling containers at employees’ desks, educating employees about recycling best practices and raising awareness of the importance of the 5 Rs: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle. Each of these words describes an essential step to limit waste sent to landfills. Explaining the recycling process helped keep sustainability top of mind for our employees.

SMALL STEPS TODAY | BIG IMPACTS TOMORROW

“We believe that taking these relatively small steps today can lead to big impacts tomorrow for our Company, our community and the world at large. We are grateful for SWACO’s collaboration throughout this process as well as our employees who are leading the way with their actions to a more sustainable future.”

EASY AND ACCESSIBLE COMPOSTING

In addition, Worthington Enterprises is the first corporate partner to participate in SWACO’s Food Waste Champion program. The program goal is to divert waste from the landfill by composting. Now, our corporate locations offer composting options that make disposing food waste easy and accessible.

New opportunities to recycle and compost provided employees additional ways to decrease waste sent to the landfill. These small, daily efforts add up to something much larger and create a culture that avoids unnecessary waste.
