Amtrol-Alfa, a business of Worthington Enterprises and Europe’s largest manufacturer of traditional, lightweight and composite cylinders, is leading the way by successfully manufacturing pressure cylinders using XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel—an advanced low-carbon material developed through a partnership with global steelmaker ArcelorMittal. The steel, made with at least 75% recycled scrap and powered entirely by renewable electricity, offers a 73% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventionally produced steel.
The collaboration between Worthington Enterprises and ArcelorMittal began in 2022 with a shared focus on reducing the environmental footprint of steel used in gas cylinders. After rigorous testing and validation, our Portugal manufacturing location began industrial trials of these innovative green cylinders.
This achievement in quality sustainable product development for the LPG, refrigerant and technical gases markets sets a new standard for cylinders meeting regulatory demands while lowering emissions. The product has an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and no reliance on carbon offsets, which demonstrates tangible progress toward greener manufacturing.
By integrating sustainable materials and pioneering partnerships, Worthington Enterprises continues to lead the pressure cylinder market with solutions that are both technically advanced and environmentally forward-thinking.
