Recycling and End-of-Life Management

Worthington Enterprises is leading the way in the development of product stewardship approaches for pressurized cylinders. Both refillable and non-refillable cylinders require convenient and efficient end-of-life management to support their safe reuse, recycling or disposal. By partnering with other leading cylinder brands to form the Pressurized Cylinder Industry Association (PCIA), Worthington Enterprises is leveraging joint industry expertise to develop pathways to achieve the desired outcomes.

Following legislation passed in Connecticut in 2022, PCIA members established The Cylinder Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization tasked with implementing a statewide recycling program for residential gas cylinders. Within this program, pressurized cylinders from two state parks in Connecticut were collected throughout the 2025 camping season. Beginning October 1, 2025, collection will expand to the rest of the state through partnerships with municipal waste collection sites. Connecticut residents will soon be able to access more locations that accept pressurized cylinders for reuse or recycling.

PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP

A Harmonized Approach

Worthington Enterprises also registered with the Circular Action Alliance (CAA) to support end-of-life management of certain products designed, manufactured and packaged by the Company. The CAA is the approved Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) for implementation of packaging stewardship programs in California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota and Oregon. The PCIA collaborates with CAA to represent the gas cylinder industry in these states and to harmonize approaches to product stewardship.
